The Nines Ultimate Dry Skin Cure Kit

how to get rid of dry skinDoes this harsh winter weather have your skin feeling flaky, dry, itchy, and maybe even cracked? If so, don’t fret too much-you aren’t ¬†alone. Lots of people experience this problem. For those of us with dry skin conditions to begin with, winter can be especially brutal. That’s why I’ve put together a combination of different products that will help you to keep your skin soft and prevent that uncomfortable itchiness associated with seasonal dryness.

Cold weather causes your skin to dry out due to low environmental humidity. So, the first step is to retain as much of your skin’s own essential moisture as possible. To that purpose, it’s important to use a soap with no harsh cleansers or chemicals. That’s why I recommend Rock & Roll Revival by Drifter Grooming. Its 100% natural ingredients won’t dry you out-in fact, the soap is loaded with fatty oils which can help to replenish and protect your skin.

But, you don’t want your scalp to dry out either, which is why I’ve also included the Daily Clarifying shampoo and Revitalizing conditioner by Brickell. Brickell is great about using gentler surfactants to cleanse your hair while being sure to include natural moisturizers to protect both your hair and the skin beneath it.

I’ve also included Brickell’s Daily Advanced Face Care Routine II. This box set includes their Purifying Charcoal Face Wash, Daily Essential Face Moisturizer, and Renewing Face Scrub. I recommend only using the scrub every 2-3 days. This will keep your skin fresh and exfoliated, scrubbing away the outer layer of dry, dead skin cells. More often than that is probably overkill. Also, on days when you use the scrub, it isn’t necessary to also use the wash…but be sure to use the moisturizer once or twice every day.

Once you’ve got out of the shower and toweled off, reach for your bottle of Body Lotion by Fulton & Roark and apply to your entire body, or to the areas that are especially problematic for you. By doing this immediately after showering, you can trap in some of the hydration from the shower before it escapes your skin into the dry air.

If you’re going to shave, use a high quality, non-foaming cream with no alcohol or sulfates, like this one by O’Douds Apothecary and follow it up with an all-natural soothing aftershave. After that would be the best time to apply the Brickell face moisturizer mentioned above, primarily focusing on areas you didn’t hit with the aftershave.

I’ve also included lip balm from Detroit Grooming. I don’t think this particularly needs explaination as everyone who lives in cold environments knows that winter weather = chapped lips.

Finally, I’d suggest keeping a beard oil on hand. It’s not just for beards-you can use it anywhere. I personally use it and my hands. It can help smooth out and soften the skin around your fingernails, you can run it into your knuckles, if that’s a problem spot for you, or the webbing between your thumb and index finger. Really, anywhere that you notice patchy or dry skin, these oils are perfect for on the spot touch ups.

If you have any questions about these products or issues you’re experiencing with your grooming routine, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m always available via email, or you can stop by the store and see me in person. Either way, I’m happy to help.
